Apple TV+ and legendary rock band Fleetwood Mac have recently announced their plans to release a documentary following the band through their time dominating the music industry.
Fleetwood Mac is known for their incredible music that remains popular to this day despite the long years since the band’s rise to fame in the 70s. The band received extensive attention surrounding their chaotic personal lives, with considerable drama unfolding between members of the band throughout their time together.
The documentary will follow the band members – vocalist Stevie Nicks, singer/guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, drummer Mick Fleetwood, bassist John McVie, and singer/keyboardist Christine McVie – as they managed their relationships through good and bad times while managing to make incredible music that transformed the industry.
The upcoming film will be directed by Frank Marshall, who has experience telling the stories of incredible musicians, such as the Bee Gees and the Beach Boys. Marshall is both a five-time Academy Award nominee and Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award winner, so he is sure to bring a fantastic and fresh perspective to the band’s story.
The Kennedy/Marshall Company and White Horse Pictures will be co-producing the project, bringing more award-winning and talented people in to ensure that this documentary is a success.
This project will mark the first time that Fleetwood Mac’s story is told by the band in their own words, giving audiences an intimate look at over 50 years of the Grammy Award-winning group’s history.
The film will begin in 1974, when Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham first entered the scene, and will follow their storyline to the present day. It will contain archival footage of Christine McVie, who passed away in 2022, and will highlight the turbulence that threatened the band as well as the resilient nature that kept them together.
Fleetwood Mac has been an incredibly influential band for women and they have been called an inspiration by many female musicians who entered the field after them. The influence of Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie was immense, as they paved the way for women in rock music.
The two women are responsible for writing some of Fleetwood Mac’s biggest hits, such as “Rhiannon,” “Dreams,” “Don’t Stop,” and “You Make Loving Fun,” which ultimately propelled the band to fame.
Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie were trailblazers in a male-dominated field, breaking down barriers by demanding they receive the same respect as their male counterparts and advocating for equal pay for themselves and those who came after them.
It will be remarkable to see Nicks reflect on her time opening new doors for women in the industry and to gain more insight into McVie’s experiences as one of the first women in rock through the archived interviews the creators have compiled.
Audiences are beyond excited to finally get an inside look at the journey the band members took from their rise to fame through some of their lowest times. It will be incredible to see Fleetwood Mac’s path as described by the band members themselves, shedding light on how the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees navigated their time in the music industry.
