Flo Milli - will you please rise? Tamia Monique Carter, otherwise known professionally as Flo Milli, is an American rapper and songwriter hailing from Mobile, Alabama, where she started writing songs as young as the age of 9. Carter went on to form her own rap group at the age of 11 called “Pink Mafia,” which got dissolved eventually when she was 14.

From there, Carter would go on to release three chart-topping albums: “Ho, Why Is You Here?”, “You Still Here, Ho?”, and “Fine Ho, Stay”. In her first studio album, her breakout single ”Beef” was recorded and went viral across social media platforms.

With millions of streams, "Beef FloMix" swiftly went viral and thrust Flo Milli into the public eye. Due to the track's success, she became well-known and attracted the interest of major labels, which ultimately resulted in her signing with RCA Records.

"Ho, Why Is You Here?"  further illustrated Flo Milli's ability to strike a mix between an underground sound and popular appeal. In addition to being enjoyable and approachable, her songs were full of memorable one-liners and self-assured lyrics that connected with listeners.

Her reputation in hip-hop was cemented by the mixtape's success, which also brought her numerous awards and honors, including recognition from magazines like Rolling Stone and XXL, which named her one of the top up-and-coming stars to watch.

Flo Milli's unique voice, lighthearted delivery, and ability to blend comedy and aggressiveness in her songs have earned her recognition. Her style blends an approachable, a little pop-like sensibility with the boldness of Southern rap.

She often tackles issues of female empowerment, self-assurance, and independence, inspiring listeners to value themselves and defy social expectations. Despite being often ironic, her songs express a deeper message of resilience and self-empowerment.

Flo Milli stands out thanks to her striking, colorful, and fresh style, which frequently combines eye-catching fashion choices and striking images. Modern fans love her because of her branding, especially on social media, where she regularly posts behind-the-scenes looks at her life and creative process.

Carter also started working with other musicians as her fame increased, which increased her influence and audience even more. She collaborated on songs in 2021 with musicians Rico Nasty and Tierra Whack, who are renowned for their uniqueness and audacity, which mirrored Flo Milli's own style. Her collaborations demonstrated her versatility as an artist and helped her music reach a wider audience.

With Flo Milli’s arrival to FSU, we can come together as a community to enjoy not only her talents but her continuing charisma and influence on the hip-hop industry to this day. So with that, Flo Mill, we will see you at your FSU concert on Nov. 16th.
