The 2025 Grammy Awards put on an exceptionally enjoyable show for viewers, including performances by Chappell Roan, Doechii, and Charli XCX! Additionally, they raised $7 million in donations to aid wildlife relief throughout the Los Angeles area.
Starting strong, Beyonce won the Album of the Year category with her very first country album, Cowboy Carter. Said album also won her the Country Album of the Year category. This makes her the first black female artist to win in this category!
Another win for women was Shakira’s success in the Best Latin Pop Album category. The Colombian singer took home the award against other big artists such as Luis Fonsi, Kali Uchis, and Anitta. This is the artist’s third win in this category within a 24-year span.
Shakira took her opportunity to speak up on issues she holds dear to herself. She said, “I want to dedicate this award to all my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country. You are loved; you are worth it; and I will always fight with you.”
She continues, “And to all of those women who work really hard every day to provide for their families, you are the true she-wolves, so this is for you, too!”
Our next female winner is Chappell Roan, winning Best New Artist against artists such as Sabrina Carpenter, Raye, and Doechii. Chappell Roan began her musical journey as an internet artist who would occasionally go viral. She is now one of the most streamed artists thanks to her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
Like Shakira, Chappell Roan took the stage and spoke up for what she believed in, saying, “I told myself if I ever won a Grammy, and I got to stand up here in front of the most powerful people in music, I would demand that labels and the industry, profiting millions of dollars off of artists, would offer a livable wage and health care, especially to developing artists.”
The Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance were won by none other than Sabrina Carpenter! Additionally, she gave a stunning performance of her two latest hits, “Espresso” and “Please Please Please,” both of which are in her album, Short n’ Sweet.
Finally, Doechii showed up to the 2025 Grammy Awards last night as the most-nominated female rapper of the year. The Florida-native artist brought home the award for Best Rap Album with her 2024 mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal.
Doechii also electrified the arena of the Grammy Award show with a performance of a choreographed medley of “CATFISH” and “DENIAL IS A RIVER” during the Best New Artist showcase.
Alongside other winners, Doechii took her shot at speaking her mind. She says, “I know that there is some black girl out there, so many black women out there, that are watching me right now. And, I wanna tell you, ‘you can do it!’ Anything is possible!”
